Ewwwww

Nina is learning words faster and faster and it's been fun to try to keep up.  She really likes saying "walrus" and calling most colors "yellow."  Yesterday she knew that she wanted some fruit and one of them had a name that was a color, so she decided to call the orange a "yellow."  Too funny.

Sadly, Nina has caught the hand, foot, and mouth virus from daycare so she will look at some of her sores and go "Ewwww."  While unfortunate, she seems to be making the best of the situation as an excuse to hang out with grandma and stay in the bath for long amounts of time.  Hopefully the sores leave soon!

Water, snow, and ice

The Naks are having all sorts of fun lately, playing outside when possible and finding new fun when needed.  We went for our first sled ride today, no real hills yet, but Nina did enjoy getting pulled around.  She looks great in her new giraffe hat from Aunt Esther, thanks!

We also made a trip to one of the St. Paul Rec Centers on Family Friday and while she started a bit hesitant, Nina loved the water.  She wanted to swim in the deep end and was sick of Mom and Dad holding her; she's a fearless one.

One of Nina's favorite things to do is to "cheers."  What started with cups, has grown into clanking together any like items and saying "cheers."  It progressed into other foods such as apples and crackers, then turned into blocks and cards, and earlier this week Nina realized she had two Martin Luther King, Jr. books and decided to cheers them together too!  Aunt Allison didn't know what she was starting this past Thanksgiving.

Busy Bees

Cold night at "Crashed Ice"

Warm day at Como

Nina is keeping busy and good at wearing out her parents.  She now expects to go outside every day and she's getting pretty heavy to carry around!  The warm early part of the week was great because she could run all over, but she has trouble when she's super-bundled.

When inside, Nina currently loves playing with her blocks and putting on her "hat and mitts."  Her other favorite word lately is "ewww," shouted whenever she sees any piece of fuzz, dirt, or dirty diaper.  Another cute quirk is she now pats a seat when she wants someone to sit by her.  Lastly, there was a gnat in the kitchen the other day and Nina was terribly afraid of the "bee."  Afterward she wouldn't go near the kitchen, then she would hunt for it, but then grew to miss it, and now looks longingly for it.

We had a good visit with Aunt Annie, Uncle Adam, and Cousin Gus.  Nina wasn't thrilled about her pig-tails but had a wonderful time overall.

One and a half!

It's hard to believe that she's already getting this old!  Nina measures 2 feet, 7.5 inches and weighs in at 24 lbs, 9 oz putting her around the 50th percentile in both.  The doctor is impressed with her words, eating, sleeping, and called her precocious.  She yelled pretty much the whole check-up in fear of the shots that never came because she's up-to-date with all her immunizations.  She did enjoy reading some of the books while waiting.  We had some birthday muffins to celebrate and she did a good job cleaning up afterward.

Nina still loves going to daycare and playing with all her friends.  She likes hugging the babies and telling some of the boys "no" and "shhhh."  They all love getting to play outside in the mid-forties weather in January, who would've guessed?!

Holidays at High Speed

Here is a video jam-packed with our holiday break action.  One of our favorite re-occurring moments was during breakfast every morning; Nina would take a few bites, look up, see the tree, and then she would point and say "oooooo" until we turned on the lights.  I'll give $5 to anyone who can memorize the words to this song.  Back to work!
