While you were sleeping...

Another fun weekend is in the books.  Today we went to watch an Australian Football League game when Port Adelaide took on St. Kilda.  You can throw out the record books when these two teams collide.  We "barracked" for St. Kilda and saw them get thrashed.  But all sports watching seems alike as we ate junk food, laughed with friends, and got slightly sun-burned.

Saturday brought us to the NBA fun zone with some teacher friends who also have children.  The girls had a good time and, like their dad, got blisters on their hands from all the slam-dunking.  On a related note, Ben was awarded Coach of the Year at YCIS and we are very proud.

We took part in Global Child Day which is a fun celebration of many cultures.  We got to try foods, play games, and watch other countries showcase some of their holiday customs.  It was really cool to see so many countries represented, everyone full of pride in where they come from.  We donned our red, white, and blue, and had a great day.  The following day, to relax, we went to the movies and watched Aladdin.  The music from the show has been the latest craze in the Nak household as the girls seem to be singing it at all times.  While this can be a bit much, we did tell Pip, "You can sing as much as you want when we get home, but you can't sing like this in the theater." ;)

More school fun

The girls participated in another successful sports day and lucked out to get it in before this week's extreme heat.  They both had a lot of fun and represented their Red House.

Nina also had an assembly in which she narrated "Jack and the Beanstalk."  It was a good fit for her because the narrator was easily exasperated and she likes that kind of dramatic part.  Kara remembers when Nina was one and saying, "I predict she'll either be a forest ranger or an actress when she grows up."  It's looking more like the latter, but time will tell.

Over the weekend we had an opportunity to attend another Sofar concert.  The concert was held in a beautiful building with many interesting interior design features.  We stopped at Tim Hortons for donuts beforehand.

Birthday Bash

The girls had been bummed about never getting to celebrate their birthdays with their friends here so we had an early party.  Kara found a craft studio where the girls could bring a couple friends to make some projects, eat food, and laugh.  It was a great day and we all had fun.

The weather has been fantastic so we've been trying to enjoy it before it becomes too hot.  With the Twins playing well, the girls have been inspired to come up with "Badminton Baseball" and like to play it every weekend.  Nina recently had a violin concert and also was recognized for her skilled Chinese handwriting in her grade level.  Pip had an assembly yesterday where she had many lines in both English and Chinese and did a great job.  They've been inspired by the secondary students after seeing the two upper level musicals, Dracula Rock Show and Little Shop of Horrors.
